It all started in 1982, on the pier of the north end of Canandaigua Lake - the fourth largest Finger Lake. Led by the passion of two windsurfers, Steve Howie and Eric Ludeman turned their dream into reality and opened the first windsurf rental and lesson shop in Canandaigua. Steve, a windsurfing fanatic [READ MORE] and the founding owner, created a shop like no other that brought the community together by giving all individuals the opportunity to get out on the water. Over the years, the shop transformed to encompass the evolution of popular watersports, expanding into kayaking, paddle boarding, diving, and more. One thing that’s never changed–the inclusive community focus. Whether it’s picking up Kershaw Park or donating our time to teach people new to the sport.

In 2020, Canandaigua Sailboarding joined the Neon Wave Family of Brands. Under the new management, we are excited to continue to evolve this community pillar. We grew up surfing on Canandaigua Lake and we're excited to support the community that raised us. We're partnering with the people that do it best and working to do it better. CDGA SAIL connects people of all skill levels through our love of watersports on the beautiful Finger Lakes.
Candandaigua Sailboard was founded with the core belief that we are a product of our environment and our environment is a product of the way we treat what surrounds us. In tandem with Neon Wave, we're honored to partner with global institutions like Protect Our Winters and 1% For The Planet to better our world. Beyond that, we're working with our partners on missions as large as ridding Canandaigua Lake of Cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) and tasks as minute as removing trash from Kershaw Park. Our future is only as bright as the energy we put into preserving our environment.
